Summer 2009/2010
Meet George, one of the King Parrots that come around
demanding seed. This one is a solitary young male that likes to
show off, as he is here dancing on the back of the chair not much more
that 1 to 2 metres away from us.
This is a busy time for us although the hay and silage
have all been cut, raked and bailed and put away in the sheds. However,
it is all hands on deck with the walnuts. While we have about 500
grafted trees, we still have another 600 to graft. Last year's effort
was delayed and did not get us any further, what with the fires nearby
in February '09.
Some of the rootstock trees are now too large (3+
metres!) to patch bud (bark is too thick compared with the thickness of
the buds). Instead, we are top working them. More on this later once we
have some buds from top worked trees out fully.
Latest Parrot news:

George now has a lady friend (Mary). The first time
she showed up with him, it was obviously on sufferance but now George is
happy to share the seed with her.
