Spring 2010

Farmers always like to complain: too dry, too cold, too wet. However, I'll try not to. We are finally coming out of a long wet Winter and, so far, Spring has been far from dry. We need to have some fertiliser spread on our main hay paddock and on the paddock with the walnut trees and, thus far, the ground has been too soft for the spreader truck. However, even without it, the grass is jumping out of the ground and the steers are very happy after surviving on hay and silage (and a little grass) over the long winter.

The walnut trees are leafing out later this year than last but are looking good. The buds on our newly grafted walnuts are starting to burst in a most satisfactory manner. We intend to pamper them as much as possible this season and we should have a small (non-commercial) crop from our more advanced trees.
