Spring 2008
The ground is still relatively moist at the farm
although central Victoria has just had the driest September on record.
October which is usually our wettest month is also looking as though we
will have very little rain.
However, the clay loam soil here is good at retaining
moisture and the pasture (and lawns around the house) are still growing
surprisingly quickly. Last year we had the "October" rains in
November. maybe it will like that again this year!
The water birds are breeding on the farm dam as usual
with one family with 5 ducklings another species with 2 plus a single
offspring from a pair of waterhens.
Our second round of field grafting of walnuts is now
starting to shoot along with the previously grafted ones (and remaining
ungrafted rootstock) starting to leaf out again.
For the cattle, they cannot keep up with the feed
available.
Spring is a glorious time of the year.
