Autumn 2011

Who would think that after the end of Summer the steers would be ankle deep in fresh, choice feed....

Most years we have been feeding out before this, at least to some extent. (By "feeding out", we mean supplementing the feed from the paddocks with hay or silage cut from the Spring growth.)

Autumn has really just begun but the rain keeps coming. In southern Victoria, summer is usually dry but, with the extreme La Nina conditions, we have had regular (too regular!) rain events with moisture funnelled across the whole continent. (For the geographically challenged, the Australian continent makes the USA look on the small side.)

I must have really become a farmer in that I am now seem to be complaining all the time with everything being either too wet or too dry.

So it goes.
